We are pleased to announce that our Lecture Series will continue in 2023, beginning with a series of three presentations on the Civil War ironclad USS Monitor, which changed the course of naval warfare worldwide after engaging with Confederate ironclad Virginia (AKA Merrimac) in Hampton Roads.

The first presentation is on Wednesday, January 18th, from 6-8 pm, by John Quarstein.

John is director emeritus of the USS Monitor Center at The Mariners’ Museum

and Park in Newport News, Virginia. An award-winning historian, preservationist, lecturer, and author, Quarstein served as historian for the city of Hampton’s 400th anniversary and previously worked for 30 years as the director of the Virginia War Museum and as a consultant to the USS Monitor Center at The Mariners’ Museum.

After the presentations, there will be a Q&A session.

The lectures are free and open to the public.
