Presenters Bio: Jay Gaidmore has served as the Marian and Alan McLeod Director of the Special Collections Research Center at William & Mary Libraries since July 2013. He has almost thirty years of experience as an archivist and special collections librarian, having worked in various positions at Old Dominion University, The Library of Virginia, Brown University, and UNC-Chapel Hill. He has an M.A. in History from Old Dominion University and a Master of Library and Information Sciences from the University of South Carolina-Columbia. From 2015-2021, he was a member of the Virginia State Historical Records Advisory Board, and currently serves as the president of the Williamsburg Historic Records Association and Trustee of The Manuscript Society.
Lecture Topic:
Talk on the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) of the Swem Library that houses the university archives, rare books, manuscripts and other materials that require special care and storage. Their holdings include numerous primary source materials such as local church records, family papers, correspondence, diaries, ledgers, scrapbooks, legal documents, photographs, and more. The SCRC’s collections focus largely on Williamsburg and Virginia and will be most relevant to genealogists working on ancestors in those areas.
